In this article an argument is made out for reorientation regarding the integral part of the cross of Jesus Christ in an action theory for the homiletic process. The author reasons that a pneumatological interpretation of the Christological category will provide a hermeneutical key in the homiletic process to unlock the power and wisdom contained in the gospel of the crucified Christ. In the tension field of the homiletic process the preachers may frequently find themselves in a vulnerable position- struggling with their own reservedness in commitment to the gospel; fearful of not meeting the expectations of the listeners; trying to find a rhetorical style that will communicate credibility and convincingness. The author explores the implications of preachers’ pneumatological integration of their life in the crucified Jesus Christ with respect to three important elements in the communicative tension field of the homiletic process: the relationship with the biblical text, the relationship with the listeners and the self presentation embedded in rhetorical style.Published
