ABSTRACT
Â
Examining the worship preference of a congregation in order to enhance members’ participation in song and music within the framework of six worship models
Â
Â
The important role of music and singing within the dialogue of the liturgy should never be underestimated. It is imperative for any congregation to understand its members’ preference to liturgical song and music as it has a direct impact on members’ participation. Knowledge gained from this understanding can assist congregations to make informed decisions with regard to the different forms and genres of church music and hymns which may enhance member participation during worship. This article reflects on a case study that was conducted at a Dutch Reformed congregation to investigate the worship preferences with specific reference to church music and hymns. The six worship models, based on the book Exploring the worship spectrum, edited by Paul Basden, were used as a theoretical framework for the study. Â
