Abstract

In Search of Earthly Spirituality
This contribution offers a constructive contribution to Christian spirituality through an investigation of the notion of an earthly spirituality. The term “earthly spirituality” expresses a dual conviction, namely 1) that one can only speak about a transcendent God through earthly, human categories, and 2) that speaking about God’s transcendence constitutes a way of redescribing and understanding that which is earthly, worldly, bodily, material. The article offers an account of the stimuli behind such a search for an earthly spirituality and describes a number of contours for this quest within the context of Christian spirituality.
