Abstract

Harry Kuitert: Faith as Imagination
Resisting fundamentalism, Kuitert has always focused on the human side of our faith. At the same time he has always believed in a Living God outside of us, the One Who keeps us in his Hands. This faith in a Provident God, he claimed, is accessible to anyone who has eyes to see. Some of his colleagues disagreed strongly on this point and said that Kuitert was inconsistent in his thinking. Recently Kuitert has dropped all faith propositions, including the one of God as Provider. “God” became the product of our imagination. Maybe by doing this his theological position has become less inconsistent. But how much hope is to be found in faith as imagination?
