This article takes a brief look at some of the reasons why the law does not always function in a theological sound manner in contemporary worship services, especially those of the Dutch Reformed Church. It consequently addresses certain basic questions, such as a definition of the law, examples of how the law is misunderstood and misused, the theological integration of law and gospel and the inter-relationship between sin, salvation and obedience. The article concludes by putting forward some practical implications for the structuring of the worship service.Published
