The purpose of this article is to investigate the complex problem of moral education in schools.Moral problems in the South African society are reflected in schools and the church as a role player cannot escape this debate. Different approaches towards moral education are critically evaluated from a South African perspective. Hindrances regarding moral education in schools and the alleviation thereof, as disclosed in an empirical investigation under teachers, are discussed.
