Abstract

The truth of the gospel. Guidelines for preaching Galatians 2:11-21
After situating Galatians 2:11-21 within Paul’s argument in chapters 1 and 2 of the letter, the most important exegetical issues in this pericope are discussed. The basic message of the pericope is identified as the “truth of the gospel”, that is the notion that people are justified by God through belief in Jesus Christ and not by works of the law. This is followed by some guidelines for making a sermon on the pericope in such a way that its basic message is concretised in a relevant way for modern society.
