The General Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church has invited comments on the recent submission respecting the authority of Scripture by the Commission concerned, and which are due by 31 December 2003. The present discussion briefly comments on the relationship between the authority of God and the authority of his Word as understood by the submission. The comments also briefly deal with the tension between claims of the natural and historical sciences versus certain biblical notions. In a follow-up (Part II) some aspects regarding the exegesis of biblical passages referred to by the submission will be studied.Published
