The role of prof EP Groenewald as Bible translator: a historical overviewProfessor E P Groenewald is regarded as a great South African theologian, thé Nestor of the New Testament science and the doyen of New Testament research and exegesis in SA. He taught New Testament subjects as professor at the Faculty of Theology (Section B – DRC) at the University of Pretoria for 33 years. He served as dean of the Faculty for 21 years (1948-1969). As writer of Afrikaans theological literature he undeniably fulfilled the role of a pioneer. He received various important awards for his work. He made a significant contribution to Afrikaans Bible translation and translatory science. He regarded his own contribution to the 1983 New Afrikaans Translation of the Bible as the crown on his labours.
