Abstract

This article is about the theological and confessional reasons why the Dutch Reformed Church does not allow legal representation in its church inquiries. The article argues that for the church to allow professional legal representation of parties in church enquiries will be in contradiction with the faith and confessional character of church inquiries, specifically disciplinary inquiries. Parties in a church inquiry can be assisted by a person who helps them but not by a legal representative who speaks for them.
