Isaiah 19 is a unique text about universal salvation – salvation even for Egypt and Assyria. Reading Isaiah as a whole, special aspects of the salvation of Egypt and Assyria become clear. Egypt clearly refers to humanity in general, and not only to a geographical part of the world where Jews resided and acknowledged Yahweh. This message of universality is important for missionary work. This Old Testament text shows that God’s universal salvation is also for people who have not acknowledged Him previously, and this should be borne in mind by those involved with missionary work. This means that the Gospel of salvation should be proclaimed universally.Published
