Luke 11 and 18, Prayer, Prayer in Luke, Teaching on prayerAbstract
Prayer was a subject of great interest to the writer of Luke. In the third Gospel prayer features more largely than in the other Gospels. Two aspects are prominent – the example of Jesus’ prayer life and his direct instruction on prayer. Although commentators had noted that Luke made many references to the subject little is said of the implications of this. In an attempt to fill this gap this article focusses on the latter of the above mentioned aspects by investigating Jesus’ instruction on prayer. It is only Luke who gives us the extended teaching of Jesus on this subject, illustrated by parables and following the request of the disciples.Published
