Abstract

Due to the complexity of ministry, the high level of stress amongst pastors, the feasibility and the affordability of professional counselling, an urgent need surfaced for pastoral models focusing on immediate demands and needs. While crisis counselling focuses more on the immediate impact of emotional crises, the article advocates for a brief approach supplementary to crisis counselling. The hypothesis is argued that “compact” or brief counselling is focused on the immediacy of attitude and aptitude. Its main concern is not necessarily to solve problems, but to empower people, that is how to live the problem and how to apply spiritual resources to vital life issues in order to create new options for future orientation.
