Abstract

Church polity a serving polity?
The core argument in this article is that a reformed church polity aims to serve the church by supplying the orderly channels through which the Word of God can flow freely and actually govern the church. The fruit of a reformed church polity as reflected in a reformed church order, should be based on the Scriptures. This condition serves to ensure that the order serves it purpose. A church order differs from a confession of faith by aiming at practical measures for the life of the church. It has therefore much more of a temporary nature. In essence: a reformed church polity should strengthen the church to be church of the Word of God.
