Abstract

The problem that scientific knowledge poses for the authority of Scripture and for what we must believe as Christians is discussed in this article. Under various headings the view is put forward that biblical faith and science do not oppose one another (they can and must walk the way together), that we must hold on to the transcendency of God as well as to the fact that He enters into a meaningful relationship with people by revealing Himself to us, that the nature of this revelation is such that it is both thoroughly from God and thoroughly mediated through humans, and that the Bible as the witness of God’s revelation should be appropriated by each generation both with freedom and with respect for the apostolic tradition it contains.
