The aim of this article is more to pose and articulate a certain problem rather than to provide solutions. The subject is often associated with some emotional and confused responses when presented to the ordinary Bible reader, and through the ages it still continues to baffle the most learned academics, namely that of text critical problems in the source texts of the Bible. Using Psalm 17:14, an exceptionally difficult verse to translate, as an example the author wishes to draw attention not only to a responsible approach to the text from a translator’s or minister’s point of view, but also to the sensitive conveyance of such information to the ordinary reader who might consider the book-physically-inhand as the very Word of God. It should be noted that this article is not intended to be technical in nature, since its main purpose is simply to pose a problem and make a few short remarks on the subject, which might hopefully be useful to a wider audience as well.Published
